New Song This Weekend (Kinda)

It can be easy get yourself locked into a routine. We do things over and over a certain way because it's comfortable, because we know it works. This is just as true in church as it is anywhere else.

Two worship songs.

Welcome.

Two more worship songs.

Special song.

Teaching.

Go home.

Sound familiar?

So we thought for this series, Passionate, we would mix things up just a little bit. What if we specifically set aside the whole back half of the service just for worship, just to respond to the truth of God's word? Not a new concept by any means; we are not reinventing the wheel here. It's just another way of doing things, and if you weren't there this last weekend, you missed out on something really cool.

This weekend should be more of the same. We are doing a song after the teaching that we haven't done on a weekend at Next Level Church yet because we couldn't seem to find a place for it to fit. It's this big, anthemic worship song that's all about the greatness of a God who saves. It was written out of a passage in Psalm 89.

I would love for you to listen to this song if you haven't yet, or maybe listen to it again if you have, and get ready for this weekend. I can't wait to sing it with you guys this weekend, at both campuses. Here it is... check it out!

Set Lists For This Weekend (Sneak Peek!)

So we thought it would be cool to give you guys a sneak peek at what's coming this weekend at both campuses. Sometimes our set lists are identical, sometimes they differ a good deal, but no matter what campus you are at, I think the music is gonna rock this weekend!

Blakeney:
Let God Arise (Chris Tomlin)
Alive in Us (Hillsong)
God is Able (Hillsong)
No One Higher/The Stand (Steve Fee)
Waiting On The World To Change (John Mayer)

Matthews:
You Are Good (Next Level Worship)
The First and The Last (Hillsong)
Marvelous Light (Charlie Hall)
The Lost Are Found (Hillsong)
Waiting On The World To Change (John Mayer)

This weekend is all about having a new impact. We are doing the John Mayer song to prove an interesting point: that many of us can be lulled into complacency, not worrying about trying to make an impact on the world around us and simply hoping and waiting for things to change on their own.

But God isn't content to let us sit back and wait on the world to change. He wants to use us to change the world around us, and we hope you can figure out where you fit into it all this weekend.

Enjoy the music!

New Songs

Sing a new song to the LORD!
Let the whole earth sing to the LORD!
Sing to the LORD; praise his name.

Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. - Psalm 96
I love all types of songs. There is something awesome about a familiar song, one that you've heard so many times you could sing it in your sleep, one that's meaning has sunk all the way into your bones, one that when you hear those first few notes, your brain hums with perfect recognition.

But it is also a great feeling to hear a new song and think to yourself, "How have I not heard this before? It's amazing!" When I hear a really good new song, I am equal parts excited (that I've found it) and disappointed (that I've gone this long without it.) Maybe I am the only one who thinks like this, I don't know. Obviously I like music a lot.

All that to say I'm never content sticking with the tried-and-true songs that I know like the back of my hand. One of my great joys as a worship leader is teaching NEW songs, whether they are songs that I have written or someone else has written. And what's more, God wants us to sing Him new songs. There is a freshness to it, and it lets us express our worship in new and different ways.
